Did you miss the Canada caregiver credit?
RefundSift checks your Canada tax situation for the Canada caregiver credit. Here is what it is, in plain language, with links to the official CRA pages.
Who qualifies
- You support a spouse or common-law partner with a mental or physical infirmity, or a relative who depends on you for basic needs because of one.
How much
Claim amounts CRA lists include $2,687 (for example line 30500 for an infirm child under 18) and up to $8,601 (lines 30425 or 30450 for dependants 18 or older). These are amounts you claim, not cash; the credit is a percentage of them and depends on the dependant’s income.
How far back you can claim
You can ask CRA to change a past return online or with Form T1-ADJ; CRA says a refund cannot be issued for an adjustment request made more than 10 calendar years after the end of the tax year.
