Did you miss the disability tax credit?
RefundSift checks your Canada tax situation for the disability tax credit. Here is what it is, in plain language, with links to the official CRA pages.
Who qualifies
- You have a severe and prolonged impairment in physical or mental functions, or you support a family member who does.
- A medical practitioner certifies the impairment on Form T2201 and CRA approves it.
How much
It is a non-refundable credit that reduces income tax. The amount depends on the tax year and your situation; see CRA for current figures.
How far back you can claim
You can ask CRA to change a past return online or with Form T1-ADJ; CRA says a refund cannot be issued for an adjustment request made more than 10 calendar years after the end of the tax year.
Check if you missed it
