Did you miss the tuition tax credit?
RefundSift checks your Canada tax situation for the tuition tax credit. Here is what it is, in plain language, with links to the official CRA pages.
Who qualifies
- You paid eligible tuition fees and got a T2202 (or TL11A/TL11C/TL11D, or an official receipt) from your school.
- Unused tuition amounts from earlier years that you never reported can still be claimed by changing that year’s return, and unused amounts can be carried forward or transferred.
How much
A non-refundable credit based on your eligible tuition (Schedule 11). The federal education and textbook credits ended in 2017.
How far back you can claim
You can ask CRA to change a past return online or with Form T1-ADJ; CRA says a refund cannot be issued for an adjustment request made more than 10 calendar years after the end of the tax year.
