Did you miss the business mileage tax relief?
RefundSift checks your United Kingdom tax situation for the business mileage tax relief. Here is what it is, in plain language, with links to the official HMRC pages.
Who qualifies
- You use your own car, van, motorcycle or bicycle for work journeys (not your normal commute).
- Your employer paid you less than the approved mileage rate, or nothing.
How much
Approved rates for cars and vans: 45p a mile for the first 10,000 miles before 6 April 2026 (55p from the 2026 to 2027 tax year), then 25p. You claim relief on the difference between that and what your employer paid.
How far back you can claim
GOV.UK says you can claim for the current tax year and the 4 previous tax years.
