Did you miss extra pension tax relief?
RefundSift checks your United Kingdom tax situation for the higher-rate pension tax relief. Here is what it is, in plain language, with links to the official HMRC pages.
Who qualifies
- You pay Income Tax above 20% (or above 20% in Scotland) and pay into a personal or relief-at-source pension.
- Your provider only adds the basic 20%; the extra must be claimed yourself.
How much
In England, Wales or Northern Ireland you can claim an extra 20% on contributions up to the income you paid 40% on (25% for 45%). Scotland has its own rates (1% to 28%).
How far back you can claim
Claim through Self Assessment, or use the HMRC claim service if you do not file one.
Check if you missed it
