Did you miss the HSA deduction?
RefundSift checks your United States tax situation for the HSA contribution deduction. Here is what it is, in plain language, with links to the official IRS pages.
Who qualifies
- You put money into a health savings account yourself (not through payroll) while covered by an eligible high-deductible health plan.
How much
Your HSA deduction is figured on Form 8889. Contribution limits are set each year; see IRS Publication 969.
How far back you can claim
To claim a refund on Form 1040-X, the IRS says you generally must file within 3 years after the date you filed the original return, or 2 years after the date you paid the tax, whichever is later.
Check if you missed it
Upload your W-2, 1099 or 1040, or answer a few questions. The preview is free.
